CSI case file # 50 "Decorating" and winners of my give-aways

YAY! this is such a happy Monday! DH came home from his long Asian trip this morning and our household is complete again! A second tooth brush in the bath room, laundry basket full and the cats checking over and over again if daddy smells like daddy. Yup! checked and approved by mummy too ha ha!

First of all, DH has drawn the lucky winners of my give-aways but I am waiting for confirmation of a little twist that I want to have in place before I announce the names. My apologies for making you wait, but I hope to have everything in place on Wednesday. Thanks for your patience!

We trust we've left enough clues for you to solve the case!
The deadline for completing Case File No. 50
is Sunday, December 23, 11:59 p.m. EST.
Thus, you have a week plus the two weekends to complete your layout.
(See count-down timer on the right-hand sidebar of most pages.)
We can't wait to see what YOU create!

Just look at the fabulous printable coordinates that our Michele Singh has designed for us!

Here is my take - "Decorating". Unfortunately I had to tweak it quite a bit in Photoshop as the paler hues are really difficult to photograph. Some of the close-ups will be more true in colour.

The photo of the girl decorating a Christmas tree back in 1940, is from our county archives. My journalling is about our family tradition and that of the majority of all Swedish families; putting up the tree on 23 December and decorating it. As most of you already know, Scandinavians celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, 24 December.

Traditional Christmas colours are red, green and gold and traditional ornaments, often family heirlooms, are hung in the tree together with modern accents but never blinking multicoloured lights. We also like to see the tree itself and therefore decorate it moderately.

I remember one Christmas when I was about 7 or 8 years old, and come the day before Christmas Eve my dad hadn't bought the tree yet. He was away for a very very long time so when he finally did come back, I had already envisioned the beautiful, perfect Disney tree in our living room. Greater the disappointment when he came back with a tiny, puny well not even a tree, a sorry replica of something that had needles. With him he also had a pile of cut-off branches from the trees that other people had bought and had had trimmed off. My dad made holes in the trunk and plugged in the branches. All I could do was cry bitterly.

Do I need to say I have been extremely particular about my Christmas trees from the day that I moved into my own home ..

The evidence used are ribbon, fabric, something shimmery/shiny (Stickles and gems), stripes, something transparent (jewel swirl) and something in metal.

  8. What a great Fun to read about your xmas tree story. We have more or less the same traditions in Norway. My kids think it is great fun to tell their friends here in England that they don't have to sleep one more night before they can open the presents. I love this LO and how you have built it up with so many layers and lovely embellishments.
Ha en fin fin før juls tid :)
